Nutrition is an important aspect of everyone's lives. It has the ability to affect the way you feel and how you look. We should be eating a balanced diet consisting of carbohydrates, proteins and fats (yes Fats). A nutritious diet helps keep us healthy and full of energy. We should be aiming to eat all the food groups at every meal making sure that fruit and vegetables make up half our plate while protein and carbohydrates can each have a quarter of our plate. The ratio recommended by the American Institute of Agriculture is around 45:35:20. This means that on average around 45% of your daily intake should be carbohydrates, around 35% should be proteins and up to 20% should be mono-unsaturated fat. However, theses guidelines are taken on average and every individual could have a different need.
