Baby Nutrition
![]() |
A baby is usually weaned off breast milk at about 12 months of age however it is perfectly safe to carry on breast feeding as long as the mother and infant are comfortable. Once the baby starts drinking Cows Milk you must make sure that the milk is whole as babies need the extra fat for the development. It is perfectly fine to start feeding the child the same food as the family as long as it is not drenched in sauces and spices. Try and make the foods that they eat as balanced as possible because this will increase the value in nutrition for example, include as many richly colored vegetables as possible like carrots and broccoli so the baby becomes used to this type of food from early on. The baby will also enjoy food that is as bland as possible as they have had a very bland diet up until now. For example, avoid putting butter and salt on their food and feed them only lightly seasoned meats and Carbs like mash as theses foods are not high in nutritional value and the baby will not benefit. Babies and toddlers find it difficult to eat a lot of food at one serving and therefore its a lot easier to feed them smaller portions at different times in the day so make sure to give them mid morning and mid afternoon snacks as well as there normal meals. Snacks can include fruits like bananas, fruit toast, boiled eggs and peanut butter on crackers which all hold a high nutritional value. Avoid giving your child or baby sweets, chocolate, chips or anything processed. The longer you can keep them off this harmful food the better they will feel. Also be careful of classical chocking foods like grapes, cherry tomatoes, whole nuts, popcorn and chunks or hard to chew meat like steak. |
